Visual communication has been a passion of mine since I started to draw and got my first camera. One of the great privileges of my transition into education has been the ability to indulge a passion and personal thirst for knowledge in the area of film-making. This has played itself out in many different ways, primarily in ICT where I, together with a motivated and talented group of colleagues, and a school administration that believes in our vision, have developed units in movie camera use, editing techniques and special effects.
This has resulted in amazing learning experiences for students as documented in the ICT page. However, it has also set me on a steep but highly fulfilling learning path where I have gained an ever deepening knowledge and confidence in the techniques of film making which I have put to use for numerous purposes.
Instructional videos:
I have been able to put these skills to use in developing a set of workshop tutorials covering the use of the various machines in the school workshop. This is highly useful in promoting safe use of workshop machines and is also an essential differentiation aid. A selection of these are shown below.
Software tutorials supporting flipped classroom:
I have also developed a wide variety of software tutorials for the design software packages used by students. This enables students to learn unfamiliar software packages at home ahead of time in order to speed up their progress through design projects. A selection of these videos are shown below:
Marketing:
I have also been able to make full use of the TV screens that are stationed around the school by creating trailers and other videos as a means of promoting school events. A selection of these promotional videos are shown below:
